Trump and Pence have the same number of letters in their names, so Trump’s is rendered in larger type as well, but so much so that the designer, such as he or she is, has had to expand the kerning (the distance between characters) in “Pence” to a ridiculous, unpleasing length. Obama and Bush needed their names rendered in larger type than their vice presidents’ in order to achieve graphic dominance. Romney’s and McCain’s names have more letters than their respective running mates’, so their logos were able to render both candidates’ names in the same type size, evoking partnership while letting us know who would have been boss. ![]()
